One of our best Christmas songs moving from an agitated start through a fugal centerpiece to a full bourdon.

Franz Schubert occasionally composed in train stations. I wrote this score in the pit of the Broadway show "Me And My Girl" between numbers to see if I could match Franz's idiosyncrasies. I chose a theme and variation approach with a fugue thrown in, which turned out to work very nicely. This piece should be performed as lightly and briskly as possible, being careful to allow the melody to rise above the other parts.
