Silent Night, Holy Night (Gruber)
Silent Night, Holy Night (Gruber)
Fashioned after a Beethoven string quartet, this solid work looks at the famous melody from a serious side. Very classical sounding.
At the time, I considered this arrangement my most classically executed. I fashioned some of the writing style after Beethoven before going off in my own direction. I chose to dramatically contrast the original by writing in a minor, quickly falling into development, introducing an original (and somewhat 'Rock') second motif and finally reaching a very agitated state. Although this departs markedly from the original, I keep the main elements of the melody running throughout. This piece should be performed classically, i.e. - careful attention to similar bowings, articulations and dynamics.
